UNION CITY, Calif. — Drivers using Dyer Street between Union City Boulevard and Deborah Drive should expect temporary detours during a pavement rehabilitation project that began on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
What work is planned
In its October 28 construction advisory, the City of Union City described pavement repairs, grinding, asphalt concrete overlays and roadway striping. Work is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The city says no work is scheduled over the weekend.
One direction of Dyer Street may be closed at a time while crews work. Detour signs and electronic message boards are planned to direct motorists around affected sections. Drivers should allow additional travel time, obey flaggers and watch for people walking or cycling near the work zone.
When will it be finished?
The city anticipates completion by the end of November 2026. That is a projected timeline, not a confirmation that each lane is currently closed or that the final paving date cannot change. Weather and field conditions may affect the schedule.
How to find updated information
Union City directs residents to its Public Works Construction Advisory page and identifies project manager Carly Kasper, 510-675-5311, for construction questions.
Drivers should distinguish this project from separate utility work on Smith Street in the older Alvarado area; the two projects have different boundaries and impacts.
